India has expressed deep concern over the Israeli strikes in Doha, Qatar, stressing the need for restraint and diplomatic engagement to maintain regional stability. In an official statement, New Delhi said it had “seen reports about the Israeli strikes in Doha earlier today” and underscored that such developments could impact security in the region. The statement urged all parties to exercise restraint and engage in dialogue so that peace and security are not endangered.

The strike, carried out by Israel on Tuesday, targeted the leadership of Hamas in Qatar, amid ongoing US-led efforts to negotiate a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. The operation marked a significant escalation, occurring on the territory of a US ally and risking disruption of talks aimed at ending hostilities and securing the release of hostages.

Qatar, an energy-rich nation hosting thousands of US troops, strongly condemned the attack as a “flagrant violation of all international laws and norms,” highlighting the threat it posed to the security of residents in Doha. Smoke was reported rising over the Qatari capital as emergency services responded to the incident. Early reports indicated that one member of Qatar’s internal security forces was killed, with several others injured.

Dr. Majed Al Ansari, Advisor to the Qatari Prime Minister and official spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said that the state of Qatar “strongly condemns the cowardly Israeli attack” and affirmed that security forces, civil defence, and relevant authorities were immediately deployed to manage the situation. He stressed that Qatar will not tolerate any act that threatens its sovereignty or security and confirmed that investigations are underway at the highest level.

The strike has drawn global attention, with former US President Donald Trump describing the Israeli action as unfortunate. According to the White House, Trump directed a top aide to warn Qatar in advance and later spoke with both Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the Emir of Qatar, assuring that such an incident would not occur again on Qatari soil.
