Canadians expressed widespread outrage after a viral video appeared of an Indian influencer instructing individuals to give birth in Canada as a possible path to acquire permanent residency (PR) on humanitarian and compassionate grounds.

In the video, the influencer, who spoke in Hindi, referred to this as a last option for obtaining PR when all other immigration pathways fail. He cautioned viewers that the approach is not foolproof and rejections are possible, urging careful planning and legal consultation before attempting it. He further asked viewers to comment “baby” to receive more detailed information.

Public Backlash In Canada

The video has sparked strong reactions online, as most Canadians have lashed out at the idea. Tweets called the recommendation a promotion of "parasite class" values. One contributor to the site wrote, "The parasite class is now selling to have a baby in Canada as a means to achieve Permanent Residence. Liberal's Bill C-3 will make this chain mass citizenship handouts. We need every loophole shut and mass deportation stat."

Several netizens accused the Canadian liberal government of opening loopholes in immigration law that could be used to their advantage. Others were appalled at the idea that such tactics are being directly advertised to foreign nationals applying for PR.

H&C Applications In Canada

Humanitarian and Compassionate (H&C) application is a unique stream for individuals already in Canada without permanent status. It is not a regular PR stream but a discretionary process managed by the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). One needs to prove exceptional personal circumstances or hardship in case one has to leave Canada.

A child born in Canada may enhance an H&C application, but it is not automatically a basis for granting citizenship to parents. Parents are still required to qualify through regular paths like Express Entry, Provincial Nominee Programs, family sponsorship, work permits, or study permits to gain PR.

Taking advantage of giving birth in Canada to gain permanent residency is unsafe and won't work. Misstating intentions or trying to take advantage of H&C grounds without actual hardship will result in denial or even legal reprisals. Immigration officials consider every case meticulously, and acceptance is never assured.
