A disturbing incident of racism and harassment in Peterborough, Ontario, has left a local Indian-origin man and his partner deeply shaken. The attack, which took place in the parking lot of Lansdowne Place Mall, was captured on video and has since drawn widespread condemnation after circulating online. In the video, several men can be heard hurling vile racial insults at the victim, mocking his appearance and ethnicity. They shouted phrases such as “Big nose” and “You fing immigrant,” and one of them threatened, “Do you want me to get out of the car and fing kill you?”

The harassment escalated when one man stepped out of his vehicle and began making obscene gestures, including humping his car while taunting the victim. He was heard saying, “Hey big nose, you know it’s not illegal to go in front of your vehicle and h*** you. Did I touch you? Did I touch you, yes or no? Answer my question, you f***ing Indian.”

Victim Speaks Out

The Indian man, who filmed the encounter, later shared the videos across multiple Facebook groups. In his post, he wrote, “I and my partner are still traumatised and I am posting so that it does not happen to someone else and we want justice.” His decision to publicise the footage helped bring swift attention to the incident.

According to Kawartha Now, numerous social media users assisted police by identifying the three Canadian men involved after the videos went viral. The public’s involvement played a key role in moving the investigation forward.

Following the public outcry, Peterborough Police launched an official investigation. On August 8, authorities confirmed the arrest of an 18-year-old man from the City of Kawartha Lakes. He has been charged with uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm.

The accused is scheduled to appear in court on September 16. Police have not yet released details on whether additional suspects will face charges, but the investigation remains ongoing.
