Telangana software engineer US death: The death of an Indian software professional in the United States has triggered widespread concern after a social media post alleging racial discrimination and harassment surfaced online. Thirty-year-old Mohammed Nizamuddin, originally from Telangana, was shot dead by police in Santa Clara, California, earlier this month.
“American Mentality Must End,” Techie Wrote Before Death
Just days before the incident, Nizamuddin posted a detailed note on LinkedIn claiming that he was subjected to “racial hatred, racial harassment, torture, wage fraud, and wrongful termination.”
“Enough is enough, white supremacy/racist white American mentality has to end,” he wrote, urging the international community to speak up against corporate oppression. He said he had faced hostility both at work and in his personal life, adding that his food was poisoned and he was being forced out of his residence.
Who Was Mohammed Nizamuddin?
• Age and Origin: 30 years old, from the Mahabubnagar district in Telangana.
• Education: Completed a Master’s degree in Computer Science at a Florida college.
• Career: Worked in California’s tech industry; associated with Google through EPAM Systems.
• Allegations: Claimed racial discrimination, wage fraud, and wrongful termination by employer and colleagues.
• Social Media Post: Called out “racist mentality” in the US, said his food was poisoned, and accused his employer and associates of harassment.
• Family’s Description: Remembered as a quiet, religious person who often raised concerns about mistreatment at work.
According to local police, officers responded to an emergency call on September 3. Nizamuddin allegedly attacked his roommate with a knife and was restraining him when police arrived. Officials said he was shot during the intervention. His roommate, though injured, survived the attack. Authorities in Santa Clara described the matter as “an active and open investigation,” with no final conclusion yet on the exact circumstances that led to the police shooting.
Mohammed Nizamuddin had earlier claimed that while working at Google through EPAM Systems, he was not paid according to the Department of Labor wage levels. He further alleged that the company “wrongfully terminated” his employment. He named colleagues, his employer, and even a local detective as the “main aggressors.” EPAM Systems, which partners with Google Cloud, has not issued any public response to the allegations.
Family Seeks MEA Help
Back home in Telangana, his family has appealed to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) for assistance in repatriating his remains. The body is being held at a hospital in Santa Clara until formalities are completed. Relatives allege racial harassment and have called for a thorough investigation into the circumstances of his death.
The case has sparked debate on the challenges faced by Indian professionals in the United States, particularly around racial bias and workplace hostility. His words in the LinkedIn post, “It is happening with me today, and it can happen with anyone tomorrow” are now being cited widely as a warning for others.
