Iran-Israel War: Hours after US President Donald Trump's ceasefire announcement and a flip-flop by Iran, which launched a barrage of missiles on Israel's Be'er Sheva, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Tuesday said that Tel Aviv has agreed to Trump's ceasefire proposal with Tehran. In a statement posted on X, the Israeli prime minister's office said that Israel has achieved its goal of "removing Tehran's nuclear and ballistic missile threat".

"Israel thanks President Trump and the United States for their support in defense and their participation in eliminating the Iranian nuclear threat. In light of the achievement of the operation's goals, and in full coordination with President Trump, Israel agreed to the President's proposal for a mutual ceasefire," the statement said.

Netanyahu's approval for the ceasefire with Iran came hours after Donald Trump on Tuesday morning said that a ceasefire between Israel and Iran was now in place and asked both countries not to violate it. However, Netanyahu warned that Israel would respond forcefully to any violation of the ceasefire. Israel, joined by the United States on the weekend, has carried out attacks on Iran's nuclear facilities, after alleging Tehran was getting close to obtaining a nuclear weapon, which the Iranian regime has repeatedly denied.

How Trump Brokered The Ceasefire Deal?

The cessation of hostilities between Iran and Israel came after US President Donald Trump dialled Benjamin Netanyahu, also known as Bibi, while his team, including Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio and US special envoy Steve Witkoff, engaged in discussions with Tehran's senior government officials.

According to a report by Reuters, citing a senior White House official, Trump on Monday had told his team that a "complete and total" ceasefire between Israel and Iran would go into force in the coming hours. "He directed his team on Saturday night: 'Let's get on the phone with the Iranians. Get me Bibi. We're going to make peace,'" the official said, quoting Trump.

The official further stated that President Trump spoke directly to Netanyahu, who has been a proponent throughout the conflict of more US military involvement. Trump has "shown restraint" and made clear he was keeping US interests central to his goal, he added.

Has Iran Accepted The Ceasefire Deal?

While US President Donald Trump has announced a ceasefire between Iran and Israel, there has been no official statement from the Iranian government confirming the acceptance of the ceasefire deal.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, at around 6:30 am (IST) today, wrote on X that "there is NO agreement on any ceasefire or cessation of military operations".

"However, provided that the Israeli regime stops its illegal aggression against the Iranian people no later than 4 am Tehran time, we have no intention to continue our response afterwards. The final decision on the cessation of our military operations will be made later," Araghchi added.

According to a report by Associated Press, Iranian state television, however, reported that the ceasefire went into effect at 7:30 am (IST).

Meanwhile, Araghchi at 7:30 am (IST), also thanked the Iranian Armed Forces for "punishing Israel for its aggression until the very last minute."

"Together with all Iranians, I thank our brave Armed Forces who remain ready to defend our dear country until their last drop of blood, and who responded to any attack by the enemy until the very last minute," he wrote.
