Israel-Iran War: The United States and Israel launched their most ambitious attacks on Iran in decades on Saturday, in an operation that resulted in the death of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Iranian state media confirmed that Khamenei was killed in US-Israeli airstrikes. Additionally, four of Khamenei’s relatives, including his daughter, grandchild, and son-in-law, were also killed in the strikes, according to Iran's Fars News Agency on Sunday.

Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump released a video on Truth Social on Sunday, claiming to show the "moment of impact of a powerful Iranian missile on the heart of Tel Aviv." In his post, Trump highlighted the footage as evidence of the escalating confrontation between Iran and Israel, emphasising the growing intensity of cross-border strikes amid rising regional tensions.

Earlier, Trump had also used Truth Social to announce the death of Iran's Supreme Leader in joint US-Israeli strikes, calling it the "single greatest chance" for Iranians to reclaim control of their country. "Khamenei, one of the most evil people in history, is dead," Trump stated. He referred to the strike as "Justice for the people of Iran" and for "all Great Americans, and those people from many countries throughout the world, that have been killed or mutilated by Khamenei and his gang of bloodthirsty THUGS."

Trump further claimed that Khamenei "was unable to avoid our Intelligence and Highly Sophisticated Tracking Systems, and, working closely with Israel, there was not a thing he, or the other leaders killed alongside him, could do." He also suggested that "many of their IRGC, military, and other security and police forces no longer want to fight and are seeking immunity from us." Iran's Cabinet, however, warned that this "great crime will never go unanswered."

Iranian state media reported that the 86-year-old leader was killed in an airstrike targeting his compound in downtown Tehran, with satellite images from Airbus showing the site heavily bombed.

The attack has opened a dramatic new chapter in US intervention in Iran, carrying the potential for retaliatory violence and a broader conflict. It also marks a striking flex of military power from an American president who entered office on an "America First" platform, pledging to stay out of "forever wars."
