Iran has launched a missile attack targeting the Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar, the largest US military installation in the Middle East, as confirmed by two US officials, CNN, and other media reports. The escalation follows American strikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities just days earlier, marking a dangerous new phase in the ongoing conflict between Tehran and Washington.

Iran reportedly fired short- and medium-range missiles at Al Udeid Air Base, located just outside Doha, Qatar. The facility hosts approximately 10,000 American troops and serves as a vital command centre for US military operations across the Gulf region. Air defence systems were activated at Ain al-Asad Air Base in Iraq, signalling broader concerns of a potential coordinated assault.

Explosions were heard across central Doha and Lusail, shortly after Qatar closed its airspace, citing “regional security developments.” Residents reported seeing projectiles streaking through the sky, prompting widespread alarm.

No Casualties, Damage Contained

According to a US military official quoted by Reuters, no direct impact occurred on the Al Udeid base. The Qatari government confirmed the missiles were intercepted, and no deaths or injuries were reported. The base had reportedly been evacuated ahead of time based on intelligence warnings. A statement from Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed responsibility, declaring, “Iran will not leave any attack on its sovereignty unanswered. US bases in the region are not strengths but vulnerabilities.”

Global Reactions And Security Measures

US President Donald Trump remained in the White House Situation Room, closely monitoring the fallout of the attack alongside senior officials. Hours before the strikes, US and UK embassies in Qatar advised citizens to shelter in place, hinting at the possibility of an imminent threat.

While the UK said the move was “precautionary,” US intelligence reportedly received credible warnings about a likely missile attack hours in advance. The BBC reported being aware of this threat shortly before the missiles were launched.

The missile strike follows the recent Operation Midnight Hammer, during which US forces targeted Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan, key components of Iran’s nuclear infrastructure. Iran’s latest retaliation marks a further escalation in a conflict that now threatens to destabilise the broader Middle East.
