Amid reports that Ayatollah Ali Khamenei is in a coma, Iran's Supreme Leader shared a photo on Sunday on X, formerly Twitter, showing him meeting with an Iranian ambassador. The speculation about Khamenei's health condition emerged following multiple media reports suggesting that the 85-year-old leader was in a coma and had secretly named his 55-year-old son, Mojtaba Khamenei, as his successor. These reports came after The New York Times revealed in October that Khamenei was "seriously ill."
Khamenei posted the picture on his official X account in which he was seen talking to Iran's Ambassador to Lebanon Mojtaba Amani in his office. "Ayatollah Khamenei, the leader of the Islamic Revolution, met and talked with Mr Mojtaba Amani, the veteran ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Lebanon, at noon today, on the sidelines of his daily meetings," the post read.

Earlier in September this year, a devastating explosion in Lebanon, caused by pagers and walkie-talkies reportedly used by the Iran-backed Hezbollah group, resulted in nearly 3,000 injuries and at least 39 fatalities. The attack, which Hezbollah and Iran have attributed to Israel, left many casualties in its wake, including Amani, who was among the injured.
According to an official statement, Amani presented a report of his latest health status to Khamenei. Iran’s supreme leader gave his first sermon in five years after Iran launched 180 missiles targeting crucial infrastructure in Israel.

In his rare sermon on October 5 following Tehran’s missile attack on Tel Aviv, Khamenei said that Israel "won't last long". He justified Tehran’s missile strikes on Israel as a "public service".
Khamenei also paid tribute to Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah, who was killed during a strike by Israeli forces and praised Iran for striking back at Israel with a major missile strike.
