A high-level US and Iran delegation is set to hold talks in Switzerland on Sunday following a recently signed memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the two sides. The discussions come amid ongoing conflict in Lebanon, concerns over compliance with the agreement and Iran’s closure of the Strait of Hormuz on Saturday.
Iranian Delegation Heads to Switzerland
According to a Reuters report citing state media, an Iranian delegation led by chief negotiator and Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf has travelled to Switzerland for fresh talks. The delegation also includes Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi and senior security, central bank, and oil officials. On the US side, Vice President JD Vance has indicated that he will depart soon for the meetings, which Pakistan said will begin on Sunday.
Talks Hosted Under MoU Framework
The Pakistan Foreign Ministry also confirmed the development and said that following the halt in negotiations after the digital signing of the MoU, US and Iran talks will be held in Switzerland, with the presence of Islamabad and Qatar. “As a follow-up to the signing of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, technical-level talks will be held in Burgenstock, Switzerland, on 21 June 2026. Representatives of the United States and Iran, along with Mediators from Pakistan and Qatar, will participate in the discussions,” a press release from the Foreign Ministry noted.

Who are Involved in Mediation?
The talks were initially scheduled for Friday but were postponed due to ongoing tensions in the region. The Swiss Foreign Ministry said global diplomatic efforts are ongoing, describing Switzerland as a neutral venue for discussions. Meanwhile, US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner are already in Switzerland ahead of the talks. Qatar’s Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani has also arrived to support mediation efforts.
