External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on Friday reviewed the full spectrum of India–US bilateral ties and assessed the functioning of Indian Missions across the United States at a high-level Consuls General Conference held at the Consulate General of India in New York.

In a post on social media, Jaishankar said he “reviewed bilateral ties and support for diaspora activities,” adding that he appreciated the commitment of India’s Embassy in Washington and all Consulates in strengthening the India–US partnership.

Key Envoys Attend Conference

The meeting brought together India’s top diplomats in the United States, including Ambassador to the US Vinay Kwatra, Deputy Chief of Mission Namgya Khampa, and the Consuls General heading Missions in Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, and Seattle.

Consul General Binaya Pradhan, who hosted the conference, said the New York Mission was “honoured” to welcome the External Affairs Minister. “His vision, guidance, and leadership strengthen our commitment to work for the India–USA partnership,” the Consulate said in a post on X.

Officials cited by PTI said the conference reviewed key priority areas, including consular services, outreach programmes, engagement with the Indian diaspora, and emerging opportunities in technology, trade, and mobility. Jaishankar also emphasised deeper coordination among Missions to support the fast-growing Indian community in the US, one of the largest globally.

Meeting With UN Secretary-General

A day before the conference, Jaishankar met United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres at UN Headquarters. He was accompanied by India’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador P. Harish, Deputy Permanent Representative Yojna Patel, and senior officials of the Permanent Mission.

In a social media post, Jaishankar said he valued the Secretary-General’s “assessment of the current global order and its implications for multilateralism” and appreciated his views on several regional hotspots. He also thanked Guterres for his “clear and consistent support for India’s growth and development” and said he looked forward to welcoming him in India soon.
