Oracle co-founder Larry Ellison has become the world’s richest man, surpassing Tesla CEO Elon Musk, after an unprecedented surge in Oracle’s stock price. The 81-year-old tech tycoon’s net worth skyrocketed by USD 101 billion in a single day, the largest one-day gain ever recorded by the Bloomberg Billionaires Index. In comparison, Musk’s net worth now stands at USD 385 billion.
Shares of Oracle, the software giant Ellison co-founded in 1977, surged more than 41 per cent on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, following stronger-than-expected quarterly earnings and an upbeat forecast for its cloud infrastructure and artificial intelligence services. The company, which has been steadily building its cloud business to rival Microsoft and Amazon, reported a sharp rise in bookings, fueling investor confidence and driving the historic stock rally.
This jump marks Oracle’s biggest single-day increase ever and highlights the growing demand for data center infrastructure, a sector that has boomed due to the global race in AI development. Ellison, who remains Oracle’s chairman and chief technology officer, holds the bulk of his wealth in company shares, making him the direct beneficiary of the stock’s meteoric rise.

Ellison’s Journey To Top
Ellison has steadily built his fortune over nearly five decades. He served as Oracle’s CEO until 2014 and has since focused on technology strategy as CTO. In addition to Oracle, Ellison also invested in Tesla, purchasing about 1.6 per cent of the electric vehicle company before joining its board in 2018. That stake, now valued at more than USD 15 billion, further boosts his vast fortune.
At 81, Ellison’s achievement is historic, not just because of the wealth milestone but also because of his enduring role in shaping Silicon Valley.
Larry Eliison's Net Worth?
Larry Ellison’s net worth surged by USD 101 billion in a single day, bringing his fortune to USD 393 billion.
Elon Musk’s wealth has faced headwinds this year. Tesla shares are down 13 per cent in 2025, eroding a key pillar of his fortune. Although Tesla’s board has proposed a massive compensation package that could make Musk the world’s first trillionaire if ambitious goals are met, market realities have temporarily knocked him from the top spot.
Musk, who first rose to number one in 2021, has since swapped places with other billionaires such as Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and LVMH chief Bernard Arnault. He reclaimed the title last year and held it for over 300 days, until Ellison’s dramatic surge.
