Amid Donald Trump's migration crackdown, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has again issued warning for the H1-B visa holders. In an opinion-based piece penned for Fox News, Rubio said, "Visiting America is not an entitlement. It is a privilege extended to those who respect our laws and values."

"US visa holders should know in no uncertain terms that the US government's rigorous security vetting does not end once a visa is granted," said Secretary Rubio.

Rubio claims college protestors support "terrorist" groups

Marco Rubio criticised pro-Palestinian protests on college campuses, calling them antisemitic and accusing international students of harassing Jewish students. He claimed these protests support "terrorist" groups and said the Trump administration will take action to stop them. Rubio wrote in a Fox News article that visas can be denied or revoked if someone supports groups like Hamas or breaks US laws. He stressed that visas are a privilege, not a right, and the US will act quickly against anyone who threatens national security.

His comments came after a court ruled that Palestinian activist Mahmoud Khalil, a Columbia University graduate, could be deported. Rubio had sent a memo to the court, arguing Khalil's beliefs and actions went against US interests.

US new immigration rules

Around the same time, the Trump administration introduced new immigration rules starting April 11. These rules require all noncitizens 18 and older, including green card holders and visa holders, to carry their documents at all times. Noncitizens in the US for 30 days or more must register with the government, and new arrivals have 30 days to do so. The Department of Homeland Security said it will strictly enforce these rules with no exceptions.

"All foreign nationals present in the United States longer than 30 days must register with the federal government. Failure to comply with this is a crime punishable by fines, imprisonment, or both... If not, you will be arrested, fined, deported, never to return to our country again," White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said during a regular briefing last week.

Rule applicable for all aliens": DHS

The rule, applicable to all non-citizens — known as "aliens" was announced by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and implemented by the US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), Dawn reported. It mandated all aliens aged 18 and above, including those with legal status, to carry evidence of their registration at all times. This includes Green Card holders and other categories of non-citizens residing legally in the US.
