Microsoft CrowdStrike Outage: Services across multiple sectors including Banks, Share Markets, Airports, Telecommunication services were affected worldwide on Friday as Microsoft Windows users faced the Blue Screen of Death issue due to technical problems at the US tech giant, Microsoft, and cyber security company, CrowdStrike. The “Blue Screen of Death" error caused computers to auto-shut down or restart. According to companies like Dell Technologies, a recent CrowdStrike update is the reason for this crash.

Microsoft has claimed that the root of this issue is a recent ‘Falcon Sensor’ update from CrowdStrike. Additionally, CrowdStrike has also acknowledged the issue.

CrowdStrike's CEO, George Kurtz, issued a statement on Friday and said that a "defect" in one of its software updates hit Windows operating systems. He further assured that the issue has been identified, isolated, and a fix has been deployed, and this was not an incident of a cyberattack.

What Did Microsoft Say About The Outage?

Microsoft reacted to the tech glitch and blamed a third party. The tech giant also said a resolution for Windows devices is "forthcoming.”.

The company said, "We are aware of an issue affecting Windows devices due to an update from a third-party software platform. We anticipate a resolution is forthcoming."

Specifically in the US region, Microsoft said its outage was initiated by a subset of its users experiencing issues with multiple Azure services.

What is Crowdstrike And The Falcon Sensor Update?

CrowdStrike is a cybersecurity firm that works to protect hardware and provide cybersecurity services to the largest organisations in the world.

CrowdStrike warned users on Thursday of a Falcon Sensor problem that was causing Windows system crashes with Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) errors. Even after rolling back the faulty update, millions of systems remain inactive, causing worldwide chaos, including disrupting flights, banks, media, and telecom services.
