Amid rising diplomatic tensions following the April 22 terror attack on Indian tourists in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, a provocative statement by Pakistani politician Sher Afzal Khan Marwat has gone viral on the internet. When asked how he would react to a war with India, the National Assembly member responded, "If the war intensifies, I will travel to England." The 24-second video clip of his response has gone viral on social media, with people accusing Pakistani politicians of running away from their nation in the face of crisis. The comment has come at a time when tensions along the Line of Control (LoC) remain high, with Pakistan violating the ceasefire for the tenth consecutive night.

Marwat’s Sarcastic Swipe

Marwat was asked by local media about whether he would fight if a war broke out between India and Pakistan, to which he replied in Hindi, “Agar jung badh jaati hain toh main Englad chala jaunga" (If the war escalates, I will go to England). This reply quickly went viral on social media, as users wondered whether Pakistani leadership trusts the Army or not.

In the same video, Marwat was questioned whether or not Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi should practice restraint to lower tensions. To which he snapped with sarcasm, "Modi mera khaala ka beta hai jo mere kehne se peeche jayega?"(Is Modi my aunt’s son that he’ll back off just because I say so?). The remark added fuel to the already heated debate on social media.
