PM Modi's China visit news: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who arrived in Tianjin, China, on Saturday afternoon to attend the two-day Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit, received a grand welcome at both the airport and his hotel. As he arrived at the venue, chants of "Bharat Mata Ki Jai" and "Vande Mataram" were raised by members of the Indian diaspora. Additionally, he was welcomed with traditional Indian dance and music performances.

The prime minister arrived in this Chinese city from Japan in the second and final leg of his two-nation tour.

Dancers welcome PM Modi in China

The performers, who are Chinese nationals, have been learning Indian classical music and dance for several years. An Odissi dancer, who performed to welcome PM Modi, said, "I felt a little nervous, but it is a great honour for me and my crew. I have been learning Odissi for over 13 years. We practised for two months for this performance... He asked me where I learned this. I learned it in India, and my guruji is Sanchita Bhattacharya from Kolkata."

Meanwhile, a Kathak dancer, who also performed to welcome PM Modi, expressed her excitement at performing for the Indian leader. She described the moment as “an unforgettable experience for life.”

"It was so exciting. I think we did our best. I believe the PM liked our classical music. It was an honour. He is such a nice person, I had never expected..." said one of the artists who performed Indian classical music to welcome PM Modi.

PM Modi lands in China for SCO Summit

PM Modi landed in China on Saturday on a keenly watched visit that assumed greater significance in view of sudden downturn in India-US ties triggered by Washington's policies on tariff. PM Modi is in China primarily to attend the annual summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) on August 31 and September 1.

However, his scheduled meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping on Sunday has assumed greater significance in the face of Washington's tariff tussle that has impacted almost all leading economies across the world. In the talks, PM Modi and Xi are expected to take stock of India-China economic ties and deliberate on steps to further normalise relations that came under severe strain following the eastern Ladakh border row.
