US President Donald Trump and his Republican Party became the target of jokes and memes on social media after Democrats scored major victories in the November 4 midterm elections. The Democrats took control of Congress and won key gubernatorial races, dealing a major blow to Trump's party.

Republicans suffered defeats in several of their strongholds, including Texas, Georgia and Iowa. They also faced setbacks in Senate races across Texas, Maine, South Carolina, North Carolina, Kansas and Iowa. Trump had actively campaigned for his party, asking voters to pretend that he was on the ballot.

Soon after the results came in, social media users began sharing memes and funny videos mocking Trump and the Republican Party. Several posts used humour to highlight the scale of the Republican defeat.

One such post was shared by Iran in India. It featured a video showing Trump being carried by men in suits and thrown into a "Hazardous Waste" bin. The video carried the caption "The US midterm elections " along with a laughing emoji.

Another X user shared an edited video of Trump sitting on a tree branch above water and cutting it with an axe. As the branch breaks, Trump falls into the water. The video refers to the saying "cutting the branch you're sitting on." The post was captioned "Today's Uncle Sam's condition ," taking a dig at the United States following the November 4 elections.

Another user wrote, "If there's a true Republicans meme tonight is this one #Midterms2026" The video shows US Senator Katie Britt sitting at a committee table with a worried and shocked expression. Other people, including someone labelled “MR. SCHMITT”, can be seen sitting behind her.

In another post, an X user shared a video with blue storm emojis to mock Trump's defeat. The five-second clip shows a massive blue tsunami crashing into a crowd of red-hatted MAGA supporters standing with their hands raised.

Another user shared the post with the caption, "He told people to pretend he was on the ballot and they did!" The post included two humorous videos.

The first video shows a grey cat approaching a small Trump figurine placed on a white cat tree. The figurine shows Trump in a suit, sitting on a toilet and looking at his phone. The cat eventually pushes the figurine off the shelf.

The second video features an edited, deepfake-style clip of Elon Musk standing inside a burning blue “Republic Services” dumpster. Wearing a black tuxedo, Musk is seen raising his arms and looking around as the dumpster floats through floodwaters on a street, passing road signs and a truck.

Another social media user shared an AI-generated image mocking Trump's election setback. It shows Russian President Vladimir Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un laughing while watching television coverage showing Democrats winning 56% of the vote against Republicans' 44%.
