US-Iran War: The UN human rights experts have reportedly found "reasonable grounds" to believe that war crime was committed by the American forces on February 28 when 150 civilians, including 120 children, were killed in Tehran in two strikes. In a report to the UN Human Rights Council, the Independent International Fact-Finding Mission on Iran stated that civilians suffered due to attacks on a sports complex and residential area in Lamerd.
US Forces Acted Recklessly: Mission
Upon examining two of the deadliest attacks on civilians since the war broke out between Iran and the joint forces of the US and Israel, the mission concluded that the US forces acted recklessly. Earlier on February 28, the US launched a missile strike on Shajareh Tayyebeh Primary School in Minab, claiming the lives of at least 156 civilians, including 120 children present at the site, the local authorities informed.
In its report, the mission has pointed out that the school was identifiable, further asserting that there was no evidence suggesting the premise was being used for military purposes. It was earlier suspected that the school was mistakenly targeted due to its nearness to an Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps naval complex. However, the survivors had told the investigators that the school was struck twice by the US forces, leading to the damage.

Would Never Target Civilians: Hegseth
While pointing out that of all the involved parties, only the US posseses Tomahawk missiles, the mission concluded that there were "reasonable grounds to believe" that the strikes were carried out by the American forces. The US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth, while addressing the controversy, stated that the US forces would "never target civilian targets". However, the US military is yet to release the findings of its investigation.
Iran's Action Against Protesters
Apart from this, the mission has also highlighted the violent action by the Iranian government against the protesters back in December 2025 and January 2026. It stated that the killings by the Iranian security forces occurred on "a staggering and unprecedented scale" in all the provisions.
