Peshawar attack news: In a major security breach, Pakistan’s northwestern city of Peshawar was rocked on Monday by a coordinated “double attack” on the Frontier Constabulary (FC) headquarters, leaving at least three people dead and triggering hours of intense gunfire in the heart of a densely populated area near a military cantonment.

The assault, involving suicide bombers and armed gunmen, has put security agencies on high alert as forces continue to sweep the compound for remaining attackers.

Suicide Bombers Target Main Entrance

According to security officials quoted by Reuters, the attack began when a suicide bomber detonated explosives at the main gate of the FC headquarters, creating chaos and breaching the perimeter. A second suicide attacker then entered the compound amid the confusion.

A senior law-enforcement official, speaking to Reuters on condition of anonymity, said, “The first suicide bomber carried out the attack at the main entrance, and the second one managed to enter the compound. We suspect more armed militants are positioned inside.”

Soon after the attack, several videos surfaced on social media, claiming that blasts were heard at FC Chowk Main Sadar.

Gunfire Erupts As Security Forces Seal Off Area

Soon after the blasts, continuous gunfire echoed across the vicinity as army troops, FC commandos and police units rushed to the site.

The area was immediately sealed off, with armoured vehicles deployed and snipers taking positions on surrounding rooftops. “Law enforcement personnel, including the army and police, have cordoned off the area and are carefully handling the situation,” the senior official added, noting that the compound’s complex layout makes the operation challenging.

Residents described scenes of panic as traffic came to a standstill and families living nearby sheltered indoors. Safdar Khan, a local resident, told Reuters, “The road has been closed for traffic. The army, police and other security personnel are everywhere. We can still hear sporadic firing from inside the compound.”
