In a bold protest, members of the Pakistani diaspora in the United States have taken their political activism to the global stage. A billboard campaign at New York City’s iconic Times Square has gone viral for targeting Pakistan's powerful military and political elite, particularly Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir.

The digital billboard featured a collage of prominent Pakistani figures, including General Asim Munir, former Prime Ministers Nawaz Sharif and Shehbaz Sharif, and ex-President Asif Ali Zardari. The visuals were accompanied by provocative captions such as “Loser” over Munir’s image and “The Deceiver with his two crooks” positioned beneath photos of Munir alongside Zardari and Shehbaz.

Another segment of the billboard honoured jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan and his close aide Shah Mehmood Qureshi, with one message stating: “Good work makes you stand tall, not fake titles”, a direct jab at General Munir’s recently adopted title of "Field Marshal."

Diaspora-Driven Campaign Backed By PTI Supporters

According to Pakistani media reports, the billboard is part of a wider, internationally funded digital campaign launched by supporters of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party. Led by Imran Khan’s loyalists, the initiative aims to expose what they call the “illegitimacy” of the current military-backed government and its top leadership.

Pakistanis also questioned Munir’s credibility in national security matters, challenging him to take a polygraph test regarding his statements about Pakistan’s military strength and its preparedness for conflict with India.

Social Media Explodes With Reactions

The video of the billboard has since gone viral across social media platforms, drawing sharp responses from both supporters and critics. One user wrote, “Zardari and Sharif! Bezatti [insult] of Munir at the international level by Pakistani diaspora themselves.” Another comment read, “Asim Munir’s failures are public knowledge, and Imran Khan’s fans aren’t holding back. The world is watching Pakistan crumble.”

This Times Square incident reflects a growing frustration among overseas Pakistanis, many of whom have consistently voiced concerns about the country’s political instability, military overreach, and human rights abuses.
