Pakistan has signed off on its participation in the international peacekeeping mission in Gaza. Islamabad has also clearly mentioned that its forces will not participate in any operation that aims to disarm Hamas. On Saturday, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar restated this position as talks accelerate over a US-brokered Gaza Peace Agreement.
Dar said that Islamabad would be prepared to contribute troops to an International Stabilisation Force, a proposed multinational deployment primarily comprising Muslim-majority countries, but underscored that any participation by Pakistan would have to come strictly under a well-defined United Nations Security Council mandate.
“We are ready to send our forces, but the mandate must be clearly chalked out,” Dar told reporters. “Our job is peacekeeping, not peace enforcement. Disarming Hamas is not Pakistan’s responsibility, that lies with Palestinian security institutions.”
The remarks come as the US-drafted UNSC resolution endorsing Donald Trump’s Gaza peace plan was adopted last week, with Pakistan voting in favour along with 12 other members. The plan authorises the creation of the ISF to operate inside Gaza once a ceasefire is fully implemented.
Growing Violence Highlights Fragile Ground Reality
Dar’s comments follow a surge in Israeli air and ground attacks across Gaza and the West Bank over the past week, despite the ceasefire agreed in October. Dozens of Palestinians, including women and children, were killed, drawing condemnation from Islamabad.

Foreign Office spokesperson Tahir Andrabi denounced the attacks, calling them “barbaric actions resulting in civilian deaths.” He also addressed a viral video showing Israeli soldiers killing two surrendering Palestinians in Jenin, and the injury of a Palestinian child from Israeli tank fire. “These actions undermine all efforts for peace,” Andrabi warned.
Hamas Rejects UNSC Plan
Hamas has rejected the UNSC resolution, criticising the establishment of the ISF and claiming the plan includes “the disarmament of Palestinian resistance groups.” Pakistan maintains that it will not participate in any such disarmament mission.
In a related development, Dar revealed that Pakistan had been on the brink of launching a military operation against Afghanistan last month, but halted after Qatar intervened.
“The Qatari Foreign Ministry learned we were moving towards action. They requested mediation, and the operation planned for that night was stopped,” Dar said.
