This is PM Modi's fourth visit to South Africa after his 2016 bilateral visit and participation in BRICS summits in 2018 and 2023.

Earlier, in a major diplomatic engagement, PM Modi discussed with his Australian counterpart, Anthony Albanese. The meeting marked five years of the India–Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, a period that both sides hailed as transformational for their bilateral cooperation.
PM Modi said the discussions covered defence and security, nuclear energy cooperation, and trade-three areas of "immense potential" according to him. He also talked about progress on education, cultural exchanges, and people-to-people linkages. "Had a very good meeting with PM Albanese of Australia… These years have seen transformative outcomes that have deepened our cooperation," PM Modi wrote on X.
The G20 Summit, being held in Africa for the first time, is expected to see discussions on global economic recovery, climate action, digital cooperation, energy transition, and geopolitical stability. India's active diplomatic outreach at the summit underlines its growing influence in shaping the global governance framework.
