Prime Minister Narendra Modi has embarked on a significant two-day official visit to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, at the invitation of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. The visit marks a crucial step in strengthening bilateral ties between the two nations across key sectors.This high-profile diplomatic trip underscores the deepening ties between India and Saudi Arabia, with a strong focus on enhancing cooperation in critical sectors including defence, trade, energy, and emerging technologies.

During the visit, PM Modi and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman will co-chair the second meeting of the India-Saudi Arabia Strategic Partnership Council — a key platform established to steer bilateral relations toward long-term strategic collaboration. Ahead of the visit, Prime Minister Modi emphasised the growing substance and mutual benefits of the India-Saudi Arabia relationship, which spans economic, cultural, and geopolitical dimensions.

One of the major highlights of this visit will be the signing of at least six Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) on Tuesday, with negotiations continuing for additional agreements that could further boost cooperation in space exploration, healthcare, science, culture, and advanced technologies. According to sources quoted by news agency PTI, more than a dozen MoUs are currently under discussion, reflecting the scale and ambition of the bilateral engagement.

Indian Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Suhel Ajaz Khan has stated that discussions will also focus on reinforcing economic and defence ties while addressing regional political challenges. Furthermore, PM Modi is expected to raise the issue of the Hajj quota for Indian pilgrims — an important matter for India’s Muslim population — during his meeting with the Crown Prince.
