Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday held wide-ranging summit talks at Hyderabad House in New Delhi, marking Putin's first visit to India in four years and his first since the Ukraine war began in February 2022. The meeting underlined the commitment of both nations toward deepening strategic cooperation across defence, economy, and counterterrorism.
India and Russia, PM Modi said, have “long been standing shoulder to shoulder in the fight against terrorism.” In a strongly worded statement, the Prime Minister connected recent terror attacks in both countries.
“Whether it is the terrorist attack in Pahalgam or the cowardly attack on the Crocus City Hall, the root of all these incidents is the same,” he said. PM Modi stressed that terrorism is “a direct assault on the values of humanity,” and that global unity is essential to confront it.

PM Modi also underlined India and Russia’s close coordination in multilateral platforms, including the UN, G20, BRICS, and SCO, adding, “We will continue our dialogue and cooperation in all these forums.”
Russia Reiterates Support After Pahalgam Attack
Putin had directly spoken with PM Modi earlier in May to condemn the Pahalgam attack. During their call, he conveyed condolences over the loss of innocent lives and stressed that the perpetrators “and their supporters” must be brought to justice.
Russia has consistently backed India’s counterterrorism efforts. After the April 22 Pahalgam attack, linked to Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammed, Moscow said it “stands in solidarity with India for elimination of terrorism in all its forms and manifestations.”
Economic Agenda For 2030 Sealed
Following the 23rd India-Russia Annual Summit, both leaders highlighted economic cooperation as a key priority. “We have agreed on an economic cooperation programme till 2030,” PM Modi announced in the joint statement.
He described the bilateral partnership as one that has weathered global upheavals for over eight decades: “Amidst many crises, the India-Russia friendship has remained steadfast like a pole star.”
