Independence day 2025: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday sent a strong message to citizens and industries, urging them to embrace the mantra “Daam Kam, Dum Zyaada” less price, higher quality, as India faces heightened tariff tensions with US. Delivering his 79th Independence Day speech from the ramparts of the Red Fort, PM Modi said India must prove its mettle in global markets by producing cost-effective, high-quality goods to secure a stronger foothold despite tariff challenges. “This is the time to script history. We have to rule the world market. Lower production costs, improve quality, that should be our goal,” Modi said, asserting that India is “unstoppable” in its growth journey.
PM Modi called for a “samarth Bharat” (strong India), likening the current economic situation to the spirit of the freedom struggle. “We should not waste our energy in belittling others; our focus should be on strengthening ourselves. The last decade was about reform, perform, and transform. Now, our focus must be on greater goals,” he said. The Prime Minister urged traders and shopkeepers to promote ‘Swadeshi’ products and assured them that the government is open to policy changes to boost domestic manufacturing.
Reiterating his government’s stand, PM Modi said no anti-farmer policy would be tolerated. “Modi will stand like a wall for farmers. They are the backbone of our economy,” he said, noting that India has become the top producer of several commodities. PM Modi concluded his speech with a message of resilience, “India must chart its own path. We have removed unnecessary compliances. The world will take note of our progress. This is the time to dream big.”
