PM Modi In Ukraine: Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Friday during his visit to the war-torn nation. This is the first time an Indian Prime Minister visited Ukraine since its independence in 1991. Both the leaders shared a firm handshake and a warm hug during their first interaction at the Martyrologist Exposition in the capital Kyiv.
After being accorded a rousing welcome in Kyiv, PM Modi, accompanied by Zelenskyy, visited the Martyrologist Exposition and paid homage to the children who lost their lives in the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war. "Conflict is particularly devastating for young children. My heart goes out to the families of children who lost their lives, and I pray that they find the strength to endure their grief," PM Modi shared on X with photos from the visit.

PM Modi and President Zelenskyy will soon hold one-to-one and delegation-level talks to explore ways for a negotiated settlement to the Russia-Ukraine conflict among other things. The visit by PM Modi also gained prominence as it comes just six weeks after his Russia visit.
"PM Modi visited the multimedia Martyrologist exposition on children at the National Museum of History of Ukraine in Kyiv. He was accompanied by the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Prime Minister was deeply touched by the poignant exposition set up in memory of children who have lost their lives in the conflict. He expressed his sorrow at the tragic loss of young lives and as a mark of respect placed a toy in their memory," the Ministry of External Affairs stated in an X post.
After Ukraine gained independence in 1991, this marked the first visit by an Indian prime minister. The visit coincides with Kyiv launching a new military offensive into Russian territory. Upon arriving after a nearly 10-hour train journey from Poland, Modi received a warm reception from the Indian community at the Hyatt Hotel.
