Amid speculations are rife over the ground offensive by the United States troops, Secretary of Defence Pete Hegseth on Tuesday added an element of surprise, saying the key is to "be unpredictable."

Speaking at a press conference, the Pentagon chief said that US President Donald Trump is willing to make a deal to end the war and that the new Iranian regime led by Mojtaba Khamenei should act wisely.

"If Iran is smart, it will make a deal. The new Iranian regime should already know that. This new regime, having undergone a regime change, should be smarter than the previous one. President Trump does not bluff and will not back down. He will make a deal, he is willing, and the terms of the deal are known to them," Hegseth said.

Pete then went on to threaten Iran with an intense phase of war in the coming days if a deal is not made. "If Iran is not willing, operations will continue with even greater intensity," the Pentagon chief said.

He further claimed that strikes by the US have weakened Iran's military capacity. "We have more and more options, and they have fewer,” Pete added.

Notably, thousands of American troops have been arriving. Despite the consistent and stern US warning, Iran has remained unwavering. Earlier today, Iran released new footage of its elite army commandos accompanied by a defiant warning aimed at the US.

The video, which was circulated by the Iranian state-affiliated Press TV, shows Iranian commandoes and says it is "ready to confront and defeat American soldiers".

The 59-second video shows Iranian special forces set to dramatic music with a video message, "Come close, we are waiting for you."

The video shows troops in full gear practising combat drills on rough terrain. On Monday, the White House said additional troop deployment in the Middle East provides Trump with "maximum optionality" in the ongoing war, despite ongoing negotiations with Iran to end the conflict.
