Prince Harry has opened up about his strained relationship with his father, King Charles III, revealing his desire for reconciliation amid ongoing disputes over security arrangements in the UK. In an interview with BBC News from California, the Duke of Sussex said he is devastated by a court decision that denied him state-funded personal protection when visiting Britain, and he admitted it now feels “impossible” to bring his wife, Meghan Markle and their children back safely.
“I would love reconciliation with my family,” Harry said. “There’s no point continuing to fight any more, life is precious.” Harry further noted that the ongoing security dispute remains a “sticking point” in his efforts to reconnect with the Royal Family. “I don’t know how much longer my father has,” he added. “He won’t speak to me because of this security stuff, but it would be nice to reconcile.”
Security Battle And Court Defeat
Prince Harry recently lost a legal appeal over the UK government's decision to downgrade his official security. Harry described the outcome as a “good old-fashioned establishment stitch-up,” accusing the Royal Household of playing a role in influencing the ruling. “I’m devastated, not so much about the loss, but about the people behind the decision, feeling as though this is okay,” he said.
Prince Harry complains he feels “very let down” by the UK over losing his police protection- despite quitting royal duties and moving to California.

Harry stressed that the lack of adequate protection has left him unable to return to the UK unless specifically invited by the Royal Family, when sufficient security would be provided. “I can’t see a world in which I would bring my wife and children back to the UK at this point,” he stated. “And the things they’re going to miss is, well, everything.”
Royal Response And Ongoing Rift
Buckingham Palace responded by saying: “All of these issues have been examined repeatedly and meticulously by the courts, with the same conclusion reached on each occasion.” Despite the official response, Harry maintains that the decision affects his everyday life and isolates him from his homeland.
Prince Harry also acknowledged that parts of his family “will never forgive” him, referring to the fallout from his memoir Spare and previous interviews, but insists that continuing conflict serves no one. “Of course, some members of my family will never forgive me for writing a book, for lots of things, but... there’s no point in continuing to fight anymore. Life is precious,“ he continued. “I don’t know how much longer my father has, he won’t speak to me because of this security stuff. It would be nice to reconcile,” Harry said. “It is the only thing that’s left.”
