Russian President Vladimir Putin has accepted Prime Minister Narendra Modi's invitation and is expected to visit India soon. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on Thursday stated that the preparations for Putin's visit are underway.
"(Russian) President Vladimir Putin has accepted an invitation to visit from the Indian head of government. A visit by the Russian head of state to the Republic of India is currently being prepared," the Russian foreign minister was quoted as saying by the TASS news agency.
The statement from the Russian Foreign Minister came while he was addressing the "Russia and India: Toward a New Bilateral Agenda" conference through a video. Lavrov emphasised that both India and Russia are committed to taking the bilateral ties to an all time high, adding that both of the countries have a lot of things in common.
While providing details, he stated that India is currently making arrangements for the visit of the Russian president. The "Russia and India: Toward a New Bilateral Agenda" conference is jointly hosted by the Embassy of India in Russia and the Russian International Affairs Council (RIAC).

Lavrov further emphasised that the Russian president will be visiting India following the invitation from Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Earlier in July 2024, PM Modi visited Russia following re-election in the 2024 Lok Sabha Elections to attend the 22nd India-Russia Annual Summit. Modi had emphasised that India and Russia are close allies and are determined to work together to take the bilateral relations to new heights.

Apart from this, TASS reported in February that PM Modi is expected to visit Russia for the May 9 parade at Moscow's Red Square to mark the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War. "Prime Minister Narendra Modi is planning a visit to the May 9 parade in Moscow. It is highly likely that it will take place," TASS reported, citing sources.
