At least 12 Indians have died serving in the Russian armed forces, the Ministry of External Affairs said on Friday, adding that 18 more are still serving in the army, of whom Russia has categorised 16 as "missing".

India said last year that it had uncovered a major human trafficking network that was luring young men to Russia with the promise of jobs only to force them into fighting in Russia's war in Ukraine.
Death of Kerala man is unfortunate: MEA
Reacting to the death of an Indian national from Kerala, Binil Babu, 32, the MEA dubbed it "unfortunate" and added the Indian Embassy in Moscow is in touch with the Russian side in order to facilitate the early repartition of his mortal remains. Besides, Jaiswal also informed that another person who was injured in the war is receiving treatment in the Russian capital. He will return as soon as his treatment is completed, said the MEA spokesperson.
"The death of Binil Babu is extremely unfortunate. We have conveyed our condolences to the family. Our embassy is in touch with the Russian authorities so that his mortal remains could come back to India as soon as possible. Another person who was injured is receiving treatment in Moscow...Hopefully, he will also be returning to India soon after his treatment is completed," added Jaiswal.
