OpenAI's CEO, Sam Altman, in a blog post has "reflected" on the happenings at OpenAI in the last year and also emphasised on the ways artificial intelligence is going to affect the several aspects of the working industry. Altman revealed that AI agents are likely to join the workforce in 2025. He also pointed out the advancements in the industry and how the technology is expected to have an impact on the workforce.

“We believe that in 2025 we may see the first AI agents join the workforce and materially change the output of companies,” Altman wrote. He also stated in his blog that apart from AI agents, much smarter AI systems are also coming in the near future. He wrote that “superintelligence" will impact the industry on a broader level and mentioned that it will give a boost to scientific discoveries and innovation.

“We are beginning to turn our aim beyond (Agents) to superintelligence in the true sense of the word. With superintelligence, we can do anything else. Superintelligent tools could massively accelerate scientific discovery and innovation well beyond what we are capable of doing on our own, and in turn, massively increase abundance and prosperity,” Altman wrote.

Altman describes AI agents as the systems that have the potential to function autonomously. For an example, if we have to prepare a code through AI for now, we order it to prepare a code; however, with the assistance of AI agents, we will be able to instruct the AI to compile it, test it, validate it, and then incorporate it in the app, apart from just preparing the code.

However, Altman did not write on the possibilities of mass layoffs when the AI agents will enter into the workforce. He also did not specify what roles human beings will have if the works will be done by the AI agents.
