The recent Christmas market massacre, which left four people dead, has shocked Germany and raised concerns about the background of the perpetrator. The massacre occurred at a popular Christmas market, where the suspect unleashed a brutal attack, killing four innocent people. Following the attack, German police acted swiftly, apprehending Al-Abdulmohsen at gunpoint in the minutes after the incident. Footage from the scene shows officers detaining him without resistance.
Authorities have confirmed Al-Abdulmohsen’s background as a trained psychiatrist and psychotherapist, but his motivations remain unclear.
Who Is Taleb al-Abdulmohsen, Suspect Behind Christmas Market Attack?
The suspect, identified as Taleb al-Abdulmohsen, is a psychiatric and psychotherapy specialist who arrived in Germany as a refugee from Saudi Arabia in 2006. Al-Abdulmohsen, originally from Hofuf, Saudi Arabia, was granted refugee status in 2016 and had been living in Bernburg, a town in eastern Germany. The accused, Taleb al-Abdulmohsen, has lived in Germany for about 20 years and holds permanent residency.
Saudi Authorities Warned Germany About Taleb al-Abdulmohsen’s Radical Views
Saudi Arabia had warned German authorities about his radical views after he posted about them on his X (formerly Twitter) account. He had reportedly assisted ex-Muslims, especially women, in fleeing Saudi Arabia after renouncing their faith.
On August 21, Taleb wrote, "Is there a path to justice in Germany without bombing a German embassy or slaughtering German citizens indiscriminately?"
Seriously, @elonmusk, what exactly did X do after a user reported these (now deleted) posts published by the Magdeburg attacker? Which authorities were informed and when? pic.twitter.com/55PsaPlmbP

His social media bio stated, "Saudi Military Opposition. Germany chases female Saudi asylum seekers, inside and outside Germany, to destroy their lives. Germany wants to Islamise Europe." On August 21, Taleb posted, "Is there a path to justice in Germany without bombing a German embassy or slaughtering German citizens indiscriminately?"
Taleb al-Abdulmohsen stated that he had been seeking a peaceful solution since January 2019 but was unable to find one. He asked for guidance if anyone knew of such a path. Additionally, he shared disturbing videos depicting a Muslim woman being stoned to death for allegedly committing adultery.
