A SriLankan Airlines flight was inspected at Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) on Saturday, May 3, after Indian security agencies flagged potential suspects linked to the recent Pahalgam terror attack onboard. Although it was not clear whether the authorities have arrested any "passenger" linked to the deadly attack in Kashmir, the airlines later confirmed that the flight had arrived from Chennai and was inspected.

Citing the Police Media Spokesperson, Sri Lankan media, Newswire, confirmed that the alert was received from India, prompting Sri Lanka’s security forces to search the flight upon arrival. "SriLankan Airlines wishes to inform the public that Flight UL 122, operated by aircraft 4R-ALS, which arrived in Colombo from Chennai at 11:59 hrs today (3 May), was subjected to a comprehensive security search upon arrival. This was carried out in coordination with local authorities following an alert from the Chennai Area Control Centre regarding a suspect wanted in India who was believed to be on board," according to the statement released by the airlines.

The airlines said that the aircraft was thoroughly inspected and subsequently cleared for further operations. However, as a result of the mandatory security procedure, the next scheduled service, Flight UL 308 to Singapore, has been delayed, it added.

Pahalgam terror attack

India witnessed one of the deadly terrorist attacks on April 22 in Pahalgam, where Pakistani terrorists killed at least 26 tourists. Since then, Indian authorities started a massive search operation to nab the terrorists, however, any positive news is yet to come.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday told the top defence brass that the armed forces have "complete operational freedom" to decide on the mode, targets and timing of India's response to the Pahalgam terror attack.
During a high-level meeting, which was attended by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and the chiefs of three services, Modi affirmed that it is the national resolve to deal a crushing blow to terrorism, they said. PM Modi expressed complete faith and confidence in the professional abilities of the armed forces.
