Pakistan has once again been slammed for its role as the perpetrator of global terrorism in the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) meeting. But this time, it is not India that has lambasted Islamabad, but the UN Watch representative who was calling Qatar a terrorist-supporting country.
Pakistan drew the ire of Hillel Neuer, the UN Human Rights Watch representative and lawyer, after the former's representative tried to interrupt him.
Neuer shared the video of his address on social media. The video shows a number of countries, including Pakistan, condemning Israel's recent strikes in Qatar.
While responding, Neuer hit back at Qatar for its alleged involvement in harbouring terrorists and persistent support to Hamas.
"If you don’t want targeted bombings on terrorists in your capital, why do you harbor terrorists in your capital? Why is your Al Jazeera serving as Hamas’ non-stop propaganda arm? Why do you act as a mediator by day, and a terror sponsor by night?” Neuer asked.
He also recalled the approval by the UN and countries like France when Osama bin Laden was killed in Pakistan to pose a question as to why their stance on Israel doing the same changed.
Today at the U.N. I asked Qatar: “If you don’t want targeted bombings on terrorists in your capital, why do you harbor terrorists in your capital? "Yesterday, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and French President Emmanuel Macron condemned Israel. But when the U.S. killed Osama Bin Laden in Pakistan, the UN chief at the time celebrated that “justice has been done to such a mastermind of international terrorism," he said.
Seemingly irritated over the mention of Laden's killing, the Pakistan delegate said, “We reject casting unfounded accusations and allegations,” while asking the UNHRC chair to ensure no speaker violated the principles of the UN Charter.
The chair then asked Neuer to continue, but only for four seconds, which he capitalized on to expose and bash Pakistan. In a bold and pinpointed statement, Neuel said, "Mr President, Pakistan is another state sponsor of terror."
