A strong earthquake of 6.02 magnitude struck Turkey on [insert day/date], sending shockwaves through Istanbul and surrounding provinces. The epicenter of the quake was located in the inland Sea of Marmara, off the coast of Silivri, on the outskirts of Istanbul. While the Euro-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) initially identified the epicentre as being off the coast of Tekirdağ, to the west of Istanbul, the Earthquake Research Institute (AFAD) confirmed the inland Sea of Marmara as the primary location of the tremor.

Tremors Felt Across Istanbul 

The quake, which occurred at a depth of 10 km (6.21 miles), was strongly felt across the bustling city of Istanbul, as well as neighboring provinces. People in the city rushed out of buildings and workplaces in panic, with many remaining in open areas and streets, awaiting further aftershocks. According to the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ), the earthquake registered a magnitude of 6.02 and was relatively shallow, intensifying the tremors felt throughout the region.

Details Of Epicentre and Depth

The US Geological Survey (USGS) reported that the tremor struck approximately 13 miles off the coast of Marmara Ereğlisi, a coastal town located around 67 miles from Istanbul. Despite the magnitude of the earthquake, no major damage has been reported at the time of writing. However, residents of Istanbul, a city of 16 million people, reported that aftershocks continued to shake the city well after the initial quake.

Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya swiftly responded to the disaster on social media, announcing that relevant state agencies had launched field surveys to assess any potential damage caused by the tremor. He expressed his hopes for a swift recovery for citizens affected by the earthquake. The Turkish government is continuing to monitor the situation, with emergency services remaining on high alert in the wake of the tremors.
