NASA astronauts Sunita Williams and Don Pettit shared a part of their Christmas celebrations at the International Space Station (ISS) on Tuesday. The festive spirit came after the recent departure of a SpaceX Dragon capsule, which delivered essential supplies and holiday gifts to the orbiting laboratory. In a post shared by NASA on X (formally Twitter), Sunita Williams was seen alongside astronaut Don Pettit, both wearing Santa hats.
“Another day, another sleigh,” read the caption. “[NASA Astronauts] Don Pettit and Suni Williams pose for a fun holiday season portrait while speaking on a ham radio inside the [Space Station['s Columbus laboratory module.”

The ISS crew plans to recreate familiar holiday customs, including special meals prepared with ingredients sent from Earth, and connecting with loved ones via video calls. They will also reportedly enjoy special meals prepared with fresh ingredients delivered by the SpaceX Dragon.
Meanwhile, Sunita Williams is gearing up for her return to Earth aboard the SpaceX Dragon spacecraft, scheduled for February 2025. As she nears the end of her mission, Williams is undergoing intensive training with her fellow crew members, focusing on mastering the spacecraft's departure systems to ensure a smooth and safe return.
While preparing for the journey back, she continues to play a vital role aboard the ISS, performing essential tasks that contribute to the mission’s success and the crew's safety during their final days in space.
