A few years ago, there was speculation that Sunita and Michael planned to adopt a girl from Ahmedabad, India, but the plan did not materialise due to personal reasons. While they have no children, the couple is known to be loving pet parents, caring for five dogs. Their enduring love and mutual respect continue to define their inspiring journey together.

Sunita Williams’ father, Deepak Pandya, played a pivotal role in shaping her journey. Originally from Jhulasan, Gujarat, he moved to the United States in the 1950s to pursue a distinguished career in medicine and research. His inspiring story and strong work ethic influenced Sunita’s path, fueling her passion for exploration.

Her mother, Ursuline Bonnie Zalokar, has also been vocal about her pride in Sunita’s accomplishments. In an interview, she emphasized that her daughter’s extended space mission was a privilege and an honour, adding, “She’s doing what she loves. So how could I feel sad about it? I’m happy for her.”
