In response to the shooting, police cordoned off a large area around the square, halting all traffic and train services for over an hour. Helicopters were also deployed to assist in tracking down the suspect.

Broadcaster TV4 reported that the shots were fired inside the hair salon, marking a horrifying event for the city of Uppsala. The police investigation remains ongoing as they work to piece together the details of the crime.

Sweden has seen growing concern over gun violence and gang-related attacks in recent years, prompting the government to consider stricter gun laws. While the identities of the victims and shooter in the latest Uppsala hair salon incident remain unknown, it comes amid broader fears about public safety. Earlier in February, a mass shooting in Örebro left 10 dead. Despite these incidents, Swedish police reported a 20 per cent drop in shootings in 2024 compared to the previous year, marking a second consecutive annual decline.
