A Syrian state TV news anchor fled the set mid-broadcast after Israeli airstrikes struck near the Ministry of Defence in Damascus, marking a dramatic moment that has since gone viral on social media. The incident occurred live on air, with footage showing the female anchor abruptly bolting from the frame as a loud explosion rocked the studio and the camera shook violently.

The Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) confirmed that it had carried out the strike near the entrance of Syria's Ministry of Defence in Damascus. A second, larger strike targeted the same location just hours later. Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz posted on X, stating, “The warnings in Damascus have ended, now painful blows will come.” He further emphasised that Israel “will continue to operate forcefully” in Suweida, a region in southern Syria that has become a flashpoint for escalating tensions.

Viral Footage Sparks Outcry

The video, which quickly spread across social media platforms, captured the moment the airstrike hit. The anchor, visibly startled, panicked and ran off-screen as a massive explosion was heard in the background. Thick grey smoke was seen billowing outside the building, indicating the force of the blast and damage caused.

Israel's strike comes amid heightened military activity in Syria, particularly in Suweida province, where clashes have intensified between government forces and local Druze fighters. The Druze, a religious minority, have faced increasing tensions with the Assad regime in recent months. According to the IDF, the recent operations are meant to protect the Druze community, including those in Israel with deep familial ties to Syrian Druze.

Strategic Escalation In Syria

Wednesday's strike marked the third consecutive day of Israeli air attacks in Syria. The IDF has already bombed convoys of Syrian government forces and reinforced its military presence along the border. Officials say further escalation could be imminent as the situation in Suweida deteriorates.

Katz also addressed Israel’s own Druze citizens, reiterating the government’s commitment to defending Druze populations in Syria. “We are acting to prevent massacres and protect our Druze brothers,” he said.

The interruption of the Syrian broadcast has brought renewed global attention to the conflict, raising concerns over civilian safety and media freedom amid escalating hostilities. The Syrian government has not yet officially commented on the incident, but the visuals from Damascus have left a deep impression on international audiences.
