Afghan Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi, during his bilateral meeting with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, affirmed not allowing any group to use Afghan soil to unleash terrorist attacks against others (India).

"I am happy to be in Delhi, and this visit will increase the understanding between the two countries. India and Afghanistan should increase their engagements and exchanges...We will not allow any group to use our territory against others,” Muttaqi told Jaishankar after the historic meeting in New Delhi.

He said Afghanistan looks at India as a close friend and wants relations based on mutual respect, trade and people-to-people relations. "We are ready to create a consultative mechanism of understanding, which helps towards strengthening our relations," he added.

Jaishankar seeks assurance from Taliban on terror issue

The statement from Muttaqi came after Jaishankar sought assurance of coordinating with the Indian authorities in combating terrorism in all its forms and manifestations. Taking a swipe at Pakistan, Jaishankar said New Delhi recognises Afghanistan’s territorial sovereignty and integrity.

Notably, after the dramatic fall of Ashraf Ghani’s government in 2021, there has been a constant fear of the Taliban allowing Pakistani terrorists to use their soil to carry out attacks against India.

"We have a common commitment towards growth and prosperity. However, these are endangered by the shared threat of cross-border terrorism that both our nations face. We must coordinate efforts to combat terrorism in all its forms and manifestations. India is fully committed to the sovereignty, territorial integrity, and independence of Afghanistan,” Jaishankar said.
