Thailand-Cambodia Border Clash: Six civilians were killed and at least 10 others injured when a Cambodian rocket struck a gas station in Thailand’s Sisaket province on Thursday, according to the Thai army. The attack, which occurred in a busy area, resulted in widespread destruction and panic among residents.
Following the rocket strike, the Thai military responded by deploying F-16 fighter jets. One of the six jets launched an airstrike on Cambodian territory, destroying a military target. Thai army spokesperson Richa Suksuwanon confirmed the use of air power, stating it was part of a planned response to escalating threats.
In response to the airstrikes, Cambodia’s Ministry of Defence issued a strong condemnation, accusing Thailand of violating its sovereignty and territorial integrity. The ministry claimed Thai jets dropped two bombs on a Cambodian road and labeled the action as “reckless and brutal military aggression.”
Landmine Incident Sparks Diplomatic Fallout
Tensions have been mounting for weeks over a disputed border area. The situation deteriorated further after a second Thai soldier in a week lost a limb due to a landmine, which Thai officials allege was recently planted by Cambodian forces. In retaliation, Thailand recalled its ambassador from Cambodia and announced the expulsion of the Cambodian envoy in Bangkok.
While military targets have been hit, the majority of casualties have been civilians. The Thai army confirmed that most deaths occurred in Si Sa Ket province due to the gas station attack. Cambodian artillery also reportedly struck homes in Thailand’s Surin province, resulting in additional injuries.
Thai Health Minister Somsak Thepsuthin strongly condemned Cambodia’s actions, especially the reported shelling of a hospital. He stated such attacks on medical infrastructure should be regarded as war crimes under international law.
Viral Videos Show Aftermath of Rocket Strike
Dramatic footage from the gas station blast has circulated widely on social media. Videos show thick plumes of smoke, fire crews battling the blaze, and wounded civilians outside a shattered 7-Eleven store. The scenes depict widespread panic, with residents running for safety amid ongoing violence.

With at least 14 people injured across three Thai border provinces and no signs of diplomatic de-escalation, fears are growing that the current clashes could spiral into a broader military conflict.
