During his trip to the Middle East, US President Donald Trump made headlines once again with a candid, and somewhat comedic reaction to an unexpected announcement mid-flight. As Air Force One prepared to land in Doha, Qatar, Trump turned to the press traveling with him and casually remarked, “You’re going to be surrounded by eight fighters, you know, in about seven minutes.”

With his signature delivery, he added, “Then you say, ‘Do we need them?’ And when they say ‘Yes’, that doesn’t make me feel good, right?”

The Qatari air force deployed a formation of F-15 fighter jets to escort the US presidential aircraft as it neared Doha airspace. The move appeared to be a security precaution, though its necessity was never formally confirmed. NewsNation cameras later captured footage of the military jets in action.

When a journalist asked whether the escort was in response to a credible threat, Trump paused before offering a cryptic and slightly sarcastic reply: “Let’s assume there’s no threat. We have to assume that.” The uncertainty around the situation left many wondering whether real concerns prompted the fighter jet escort.

Lavish New Jet and Diplomatic Questions

This trip marked Trump’s first visit to the Middle East since returning to office. Reports of his acceptance of Qatar’s luxurious USD 400 million aircraft as the new Air Force One has already stirred political debate.  The modified jet, dubbed the “flying palace,” has further intensified scrutiny over US relations in the region.

Trump Praises Middle East Leaders

Despite the controversy, Trump continued to deliver upbeat commentary on his foreign meetings. When asked about Syria’s leadership, Trump described the Syrian president as “a strong guy… fighter… very strong past.” He also praised the Emir of Qatar, calling him a “great guy” and reaffirming his longstanding ties to regional leaders.

Trump’s off-the-cuff “that doesn’t make me feel good” remark quickly went viral, with many online interpreting it as both humorous and telling.
