Trump MRI report: US President Donald Trump has been declared in “excellent” cardiovascular health following an MRI scan conducted during an unannounced visit to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center last month, the White House said on Monday, releasing the most detailed account yet of the president’s medical evaluation.
Scan After Surprise Trip
The scan, performed on October 10, had fuelled widespread speculation due to the lack of prior scheduling and the absence of routine annual physical announcements. Critics and political observers questioned the secrecy around the visit, noting that the administration previously offered no explanation for the sudden trip.
In a memo issued on Monday, White House physician Dr. Sean Barbabella said the MRI was part of a “comprehensive preventive assessment” aimed at early detection of potential cardiovascular issues and long-term monitoring of overall health. “The imaging was carried out to identify concerns early, confirm overall health, and ensure the President maintains long-term vitality,” Dr. Barbabella wrote.
‘Perfectly Normal’ Results
According to the physician, the MRI revealed no abnormalities, and the president’s cardiovascular and abdominal systems were described as “perfectly normal.” “Overall, his cardiovascular system shows excellent health. His abdominal imaging is also perfectly normal. All major organs appear very healthy and well-perfused,” the memo stated. He added that “everything evaluated is functioning within normal limits with no acute or chronic concerns.”
MRI scans are widely used to screen for a range of conditions, from tumors and vascular blockages to inflammation or muscular injuries. Doctors often recommend them for men in Trump’s age bracket for preventative health screening.
Health Transparency Under Scrutiny
Trump, who turns 80 in June and is the oldest individual to be sworn in as President, has long faced scrutiny over the transparency of his medical records. His refusal to directly answer questions in recent weeks about the MRI only intensified speculation, prompting netizens to repeatedly seek clarity from the White House.
Pressed by reporters earlier, Trump brushed off questions about which part of the body was examined. “It wasn’t the brain because I took a cognitive test and I aced it,” he joked, before directing further queries to his medical team.
This year, the administration previously disclosed that Trump had undergone evaluation for swelling in his legs and was diagnosed with chronic venous insufficiency, a condition caused by weakened vein valves. Officials described the issue as manageable with medication and targeted procedures.
On several occasions during his second term, Trump has appeared with bruising on his right hand, sometimes lightly concealed with makeup. The White House has attributed the marks to an aspirin regimen prescribed as part of his cardiovascular care plan.
