US President Donald Trump has confirmed that American negotiators are currently in Russia to push for a ceasefire in the ongoing Ukraine war. Speaking from the Oval Office during a meeting with Irish Prime Minister, Trump expressed optimism that Moscow would agree to the US-brokered proposal, which Ukraine has already accepted.

"People are going to Russia right now as we speak. And hopefully, we can get a ceasefire from Russia," Trump told reporters, emphasising that such an agreement would bring the conflict "80 percent of the way to being resolved."

Vice President JD Vance, who was also present, added that both direct and phone negotiations with Russian representatives would take place in the coming days. The diplomatic push comes as Washington intensifies efforts to end the protracted war, though it remains unclear how the Kremlin will respond to the latest proposal.

Trump Signals Hope For Russia Ceasefire

Trump expressed hope that Russia would agree to a ceasefire, citing "positive messages" from Moscow. While he did not specify when he would next speak with Putin, he emphasised that the decision now rests with Russia. He warned of potential "devastating" financial sanctions but stressed that he preferred a peaceful resolution over punitive measures.

"I can do things financially that would be very bad for Russia. I don't want to do that because I want to get peace," Trump added.

Earlier, Ukraine accepted a US-backed 30-day ceasefire proposal, potentially pausing the three-year war if Russia agrees. The deal was reached during talks in Saudi Arabia, where the US also pledged to resume military aid and intelligence sharing with Kyiv.

The deal follows a tense Oval Office clash between Trump and Zelenskyy, during which US military aid was frozen. With Ukraine now agreeing to the ceasefire, Trump is pressuring Putin to accept the terms.
