US President Donald Trump on Sunday  reshared a post by his close aide and billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk, amplifying claims that a political party in South Africa is “actively promoting white genocide.” Trump’s endorsement of Musk’s statement has reignited debates over racial tensions in South Africa, despite a recent court ruling dismissing such claims as baseless.

Musk made the explosive claim in a post, stating: *"Very few people know that there is a major political party in South Africa that is actively promoting white genocide. The video below was just yesterday. A whole arena chanting about killing white people. A month ago, the South African government passed a law legalizing taking property from white people at will with no payment. Where is the outrage? Why is there no coverage by the legacy media? Starlink can’t get a license to operate in South Africa simply because I’m not black. How is that right?"*

Trump, who has previously expressed concerns about South Africa, backed Musk’s remarks, stating: “As I have long been saying, South Africa is a total mess and a dangerous mess.”

Court Ruling Rejects ‘White Genocide’ Claims

Despite Musk and Trump’s claims, a South African court recently dismissed the notion of white genocide as “clearly imagined” and “not real.” The ruling came as the court blocked a wealthy donor’s attempt to fund a white supremacist group, Boerelegioen.

Grantland Michael Bray, a South African businessman, had planned to bequeath USD 2.1 million (£1.7 million) to Boerelegioen to advance its messages of racial separation. However, the court intervened, ruling that such financial support could not be legally granted to a group promoting racial hatred.

The decision undermines repeated claims made by Trump and Musk regarding racial persecution of white South Africans.

Trump’s Stance on South African Farmers

Trump has previously referenced “large-scale killing of farmers” in South Africa, though no substantial evidence has supported such allegations. In 2018, he instructed the US State Department to investigate alleged land seizures and violence against white farmers in South Africa.

Despite advocating for stricter immigration policies, Trump has also stated that white South African farmers should be allowed to settle in the US as refugees, citing the persecution they allegedly face.
