United Arab Emirates (UAE) has suspended tourist visas and work visas to nationals of nine countries until further notice, according to a Times of India report. Although no official declaration has been made, an internal immigration circular obtained by several media outlets indicates a policy change as part of the UAE 2026 visa policy.

Afghan, Libyan, Yemeni, Somali, Lebanese, Bangladeshi, Cameroonian, Sudanese, and Ugandan nationals are currently barred from acquiring new work permits or tourist visas in the UAE. The suspension becomes effective immediately and will last until notice of cancellation. Existing visa holders are not affected and may still stay, work, and travel within the UAE based on their current permits.

Reasons Behind Visa Suspension

The reasons for this move by the UAE government have not been formally revealed. The ban is driven by a mix of security, political, and health concerns. Intelligence has shown that terrorism, diplomatic tensions, and pandemic travel safety protocols rank among the key factors behind the move.

The new policy is part of a broader effort by the UAE to tighten up its immigration laws and counter potential threats from visitors from certain nations. It is among the measures of the country's long-term 2026 visa policy, meant to offer national security while managing international labor and tourism flows.

Implications For Travellers, Workers

Although the ban is not directed at citizens who already hold valid visas, it will be significant for those planning to move into or travel to the UAE. Citizens of the nine nations listed will be ineligible to make new work or tourist visas, effectively limiting the ability to travel and pursue working opportunities in the Gulf state.

Experts observe that this move will impact countries of Africa and the Middle East most. Many citizens of these countries come to UAE on work visas and business purposes. The UAE airlines, travel companies, and employers will also be required to adjust plans and activities in light of these restrictions.

Is India Included In List?

India is not one of the nine countries focused on by the visa suspension. Indian citizens can continue to apply for both work and tourist visas to the UAE without change under the new 2026 visa regime.

The UAE's decision is an indication of its more stringent approach to immigration and visa distribution as part of the 2026 strategic vision.
