UK Election 2024 Results LIVE Updates: As official results put Labour beyond the majority mark of 326 seats in the House of Commons, party leader and incoming UK PM Keir Starmer gave a clarion call for "national renewal" in his victory speech. "We did it, you campaigned for it, you fought for it, you voted for it and now it has arrived," Starmer said, adding, "Change begins now."

As of 11:03 am (IST), the Labour Party tally swelled up to 399 seats, with the Conservatives lagging far behind at 108. The Labours have thus far managed to score an impressive gain of 200 seats as against its final tally in the 2019 general elections.

Conceding defeat, incumbent PM Rishi Sunak said he had called Starmer to congratulate him on his victory. "Today power will change hands in a peaceful and orderly manner, with goodwill on all sides," Sunak said after regaining his seat. The Tory leader also took responsibility for the Conservative Party's abysmal performance.

"There is much to learn and reflect on and I take responsibility for the loss to the many good hardworking Conservative candidates ... I am sorry," he stated. Despite his convincing victory, polls have suggested there is little enthusiasm for Starmer or his party, and he comes to power at a time when the UK is facing a series of daunting challenges.

Britain's tax burden is set to hit its highest since just after World War Two, net debt is almost equivalent to annual economic output, living standards have fallen, and public services are creaking, especially the much cherished National Health Service which has been dogged by strikes.
