Pahalgam Attack: United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has strongly condemned the recent attack in Pahalgam, stressing that those responsible must be held accountable. He reiterated that the “UN is ready to offers its ‘good offices’ to help in de-escalation dialogue and a return to peace between India and Pakistan.”

Expressing concern over rising tensions between the countries, Guterres noted, "Tensions between India and Pakistan are at the highest in years. I deeply respect and I am profoundly grateful to the government and people of both countries and their significant contribution to United Nations Peacekeeping, and so it pains me to see the relationship reach a boiling point... I once again strongly condemn that (Pahalgam) attack and extend condolences to the families of the victims. Targeting civilians is unacceptable and those responsible must be brought to justice through credible lawful means."

In a related development, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has directed several states to conduct mock drills on May 7 to strengthen civil defence preparedness. These drills will include activating air raid sirens, updating and practising evacuation plans, and providing civilian training on emergency response and civil defence measures, according to government sources.
