The US Consulate General in Lahore, Pakistan, has directed its staff to shelter in place amid drone explosions, downed drones and possible airspace incursions, the country's State Department said on Thursday. The consulate said it has also received initial reports that authorities may be evacuating some areas adjacent to Lahore's main airport, according to a statement. The move comes after India neutralised Pakistan's attempt to engage military targets using drones and missiles, as the latest conflict between the two nuclear-powered neighbours intensified.

India on Thursday targeted Air Defence Radars and systems at a number of locations in Pakistan, including in Lahore. According to the statement released by the Indian Ministry of Defence, the response has been in the same domain with the same intensity as Pakistan. It noted that an Air Defence system at Lahore was neutralised in the counterattack.

"Today morning, Indian Armed Forces targeted Air Defence Radars and systems at a number of locations in Pakistan. Indian response has been in the same domain with same intensity as Pakistan. It has been reliably learnt that an Air Defence system at Lahore has been neutralised," according to the statement released by the MoD.

Multiple blasts in Lahore

Notably, multiple blasts were heard in Pakistan's eastern city of Lahore on Thursday morning, according to broadcaster Geo TV and a news agency Reuters witness, a day after Indian strikes at multiple locations in the country strengthened fears about an escalation of military conflict between the nuclear-armed neighbours.

The blast occurred a day after India carried out massive airstrikes on Pakistan-based terror camps under Operation Sindoor in order to take revenge of 26 tourists killed in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam. It is still unclear what caused the explosion in Lahore.
