After former US president and Republican presidential candidate, Donald Trump's allegation that Google only displays negative stories about him and his vow to prosecute the tech giant, Google CEO Sundar Pichai sent an email to employees emphasising the importance of the company being a ‘trusted source of information for people of all backgrounds and beliefs’, regardless of the outcome of the US presidential elections.
Earlier in September, Donald Trump threatened to direct the Justice Department to pursue criminal charges against Google if he is elected president, claiming the company was unfairly displaying negative news articles about him while not showing similar coverage of his 2024 election opponent, Kamala Harris.
Google has since responded, stating that it does not manipulate search results to favour any particular party. "Both campaign websites consistently appear at the top of search results for relevant and common queries," the company said in a statement.
