In a deadly conclusion to the Memorial Day weekend, a Little River, South Carolina, mass shooting injured nearly a dozen individuals late Sunday evening. The shooting took place at approximately 9:30 p.m. in the vicinity of Watson Avenue, a residential region approximately 20 miles (32 km) northeast of Myrtle Beach, the Horry County Police Department (HCPD) reported. Police confirmed 11 victims were rushed to local hospitals by Horry County Fire Rescue. Investigators also received reports of other victims arriving at the medical centers under their care, and the total number of injured might be more.
The local police department stated the incident was thought to be an "isolated incident" and assured the community that there was no additional threat to the community. Police still advised people to stay away from the scene as emergency responders and investigators closed in. "This is an active and continuing investigation," HCPD wrote in a statement shared on social media. “Information may evolve as the investigation progresses. Additional details will be provided when and as possible.” Right away, footage shared on X (formerly Twitter) revealed a large police and EMS response in the neighborhood. Residents said they saw dozens of ambulances speeding past their homes, while Times Now reported that some victims jumped into nearby waters and were rescued. The shooting took place in an area near the Intracoastal Waterway where people have homes and boating companies. Suspects and a motive remain unannounced yet.

Weekend of Violence: Previous Chaos At Black Bike Week
The Little River shooting occurred only a hours after a violent incident played out just down the road. On Saturday evening, a concert at Black Bike Week, a large motorcycle club gathering in Atlantic Beach, turned into a scene of chaos when a fight in the crowd caused panic. At least 19 individuals were taken to the hospital after being trampled, as well as from heat exhaustion and dehydration, law enforcement reported. Police suspect the initial confrontations were initiated by agitators who then dispersed into the crowd, and in neither incident have there been any arrests so far. With two significant public safety incidents within 48 hours, coastal residents are already fretting over crowd control and policing on busy holiday weekends. Detectives are currently trying to see whether there is a link between the two incidents.
